Arizona Coyotes at Boston Bruins Preview for December 11th

Teams from the East and the West only meet twice a season, so it is hard to get a read on how each will fare against one another since they haven’t played often.

However, recency bias would indicate that Boston should walk all over Arizona in this matchup, given that they have beaten the Coyotes an astonishing 14 straight times. Let’s look at this game to see if a streak will continue or be broken.

Arizona at Boston Live Odds and Pick

The following odds are courtesy of Live Odds feed:

Why Boston Will Win

Well, let’s start with this dominance over the Coyotes in recent years. Yes, Arizona has had their struggles, but in a league with such parody, it is rare to find one team so dominant over another. This streak for the Bruins includes 9 straight wins over tonight’s opponent on home ice.

The Bruins have been finding scoring from all over their lineup, which has been a pleasant surprise, especially with the injury to Patrice Bergeron and the slowed scoring pace of their superstar Brad Marchand. The NHL season is a long grind (ask some gamblers about that), and this can mean ebbs and flows in scoring.

The Bruins are coming off a shellacking of division rivals Toronto and another big win against Ottawa, and find themselves currently in the first Wild Card position in a battle with their rivals Buffalo just ahead of them and Montreal on their heels. It is too early to say this game has playoff implications, but this is the kind of game that Boston should win.

Why Arizona Will Win

Poor Arizona. They have had so much to deal with off the ice in the last decade, that at the very least some wins on the ice would be a nice distraction. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case in recent years, and despite some high draft picks, the team continues to struggle to find its way.

The Coyotes are already 5 points out of the final wild-card spot with three other teams ahead of them, and even though there are still over 50 games left in the season, it feels like it is already slipping away.

On the positive side, the Coyotes are actually playing better on the road than at home, as can be seen in their 7-51 record. Maybe they like playing in front of larger crowds, or maybe there is a comradery on the road, but whatever the reason, the team needs to keep that level of play alive.

Scoring seems to come in bunches (and not too many bunches, given they are 28th in the league in that category). However, the team does play some excellent defense (4th in Goals Against) and seems to have found some mojo with their goaltending duo.

With Anti Raanta injured, the pressure is on young netminder Adin Hill to break this losing streak against the Bruins. However, if the team can’t score, it becomes pretty tough to win a game.

Who We Think You Should Bet On

When it comes to this matchup, we looked at every angle to try to find a way that Arizona could pull this game off. We just don’t see it – even though they have a winning record on the road, playing n Boston has given them fits over the years, and there are no signs that this will change tonight. We are sticking with what we know for this game.

Our picks -Boston -1.5, over 5.5 goals
