Friday Night MLS: Houston Dynamo at Toronto FC Pick
The MLS schedule gives us just one game tonight, but it looks like a fun one. Erick Torres and the high-powered Dynamo offense will try to win on the road for the first time this season against a Toronto side that looked rejuvenated in beating Chicago last week.
Will Sebastian Giovinco earn Player of the Week honors for a second straight week, or will Houston find a way to salvage at least a point?
- Moneyline: Houston +475, Toronto -170, Draw +295
- Betting Value: Houston is too good to be this big an underdog, so if you feel good about the Dynamo they’re an interesting bet.
The first game of Matchweek 8 gives us a matchup between two teams with high hopes. TFC are feeling good after picking up their second win of the year against Chicago by a 3-1 margin over the weekend. Sebastian Giovinco broke out for the first time in 2017, bagging a pair of goals in the victory and earning the league’s Player of the Week honors.
Houston, meanwhile, cruised to a relatively easy 2-0 win at home over San Jose Earthquakes, who were playing their second match within the span of four days. Erick Torres scored his league-leading seventh goal from the penalty spot before Alberth Elis scored from a corner to ice the match in the second half. The victory moved Houston to third place in the West in the early going.
The key for Houston will be recreating their home form on the road. They’re 4-0-1 so far this season in their home park, but 0-2-0 on the road. TFC, meanwhile, are an unbeaten 1-0-2 at home to this point. We think they make it two straight victories here.
