Today, I’ll be offering an in-depth Garcia vs. Martin betting pick with a close breakdown of how these men stack up against one another.

Hardcore boxing fans have been looking forward to this fight for weeks. An impressive win for either man will likely earn them a big-name opponent the next time they compete.

Here’s what you need to know about this upcoming clash.

Mikey Garcia -2000 N/A
Sandor Martin +1000 N/A

Boxing is a sport filled with mismatches. Based on the odds, this is another case of that taking place. I am not shocked to see Mikey Garcia listed as such as a large favorite here. He has considerably more experience at a high level and seems to be the more technical boxer.

That isn’t to say that Martin Sandor cannot win this fight. He’s a talented fighter and is still just 28 years old. As the odds show, however, he is facing an uphill battle and a win for the Spaniard would be one of the biggest boxing upsets of 2021.

Many fans will look at the odds and immediately form their own Garcia vs. Martin betting pick. Making wagers based solely on odds is never a smart decision, though. It’s important to look at everything that a fighter brings into the ring before deciding to place any wagers.

Comparing the statistics these fighters bring to the ring is a great way to start. Below is a look at some of the most important figures leading into fight night.

Garcia vs. Martin Preview

Many boxing fans have been calling for the return of Mikey Garcia for years. He’s been involved in a number of high-profile fights during his run in the sport. Garcia hasn’t fought since a decision win over Jessie Vargas since early 2020, though. Martin Sandor is still a largely untested prospect and fans remain curious as to how he will fare with this jump up in competition.

Mikey Garcia Sandor Martin
Age 33 38
Height 5’6″ 5’7.5″
Reach 68″ 69″
Total Fights 41 40
Record 40-1 38-2
Knockouts 30 13

This is a very even fight on paper. Many will likely be surprised to find that Sandor Martin has just one less fight on his record than Mikey Garcia. Of course, the majority of these fights took place in Spain against lesser competition.

The physical statistics between these men are very even. Sandor comes in as the slightly taller man. He also has a very small reach advantage over his opponent. Exactly how much that will help his chances on fight night is unclear.

The most glaring difference here is the number of finishes between these two fighters. Mikey Garcia has earned 30 knockouts out of 40 wins. Martin, however, has earned just 13 of his professional victories by knockout.

There is no doubt this had an impact on how I formed my Garcia vs. Marin betting pick. It’s unusual to see such a high-level fighter with such a low finishing rate. That may not bode well against an extremely technical fighter like Mikey Garcia.

I expect both men to come into this fight with a burning desire to win. The victor will likely be set up for a massive fight next year. Now is a fantastic time to talk about how these fighters will likely approach their main event fight this Saturday night.

Mikey’s Goal

Mikey Garcia was considered one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world during his run from 2013 to 2019. He then moved up in weight to challenge Errol Spence Jr. Mikey’s size disadvantage hurt him here, as he was soundly defeated via unanimous decision.

Garcia has only competed once since that loss. That was the aforementioned victory over Jessie Vargas. I expect him to come into this fight hungrier than ever. Garcia is one of the most technical boxers in the world and should look to simply outclass Sandor throughout this fight. A common Garcia vs. Martin betting pick is on Mikey coming out victorious via decision.

Look for Mikey to land his hard straight punches from at range. Once on the inside, he can land his hooks to the body, looking for a stoppage. Martin has proven himself to be durable, yet it’s unclear how he will fare under a sustained attack from one of the best fighters in the world.

Sandor’s Goal

Casual boxing fans are likely unaware of Sandor Martin and his accomplishments in boxing. Despite his stellar record, he has flown under the radar. That is mostly due to his lack of fights against big names in the super-lightweight division.

Sandor has found tremendous success, despite his apparent lack of power. He is a technical fighter with solid defensive skills. The Spaniard has also been much more active than Garcia and that could end up playing a huge factor when he meets Mikey in the ring. All online sports betting sites still list him as a massive underdog to get the job done.

Expect to see Sandor looking to pick his shots on the outside while evading Mikey’s punches. He is a southpaw and that is a style that has given Garcia trouble in the past. He has a solid jab and left cross that could find their mark in the ring. His goal should be to out-point Garcia while looking for any opportunity to close the show with a knockout.

Final Garcia vs. Martin Betting Pick

When this fight was first announced, I immediately predicted Mikey would earn an easy win. Looking at this fight a little closer made my prediction much harder to come up with. Sandor Martin is still relatively unknown and oftentimes, those are the most dangerous fighters.

Both fighters have clear ways they can come out on top. These two fighters are very similar. In the end, I feel that one of these men has the better overall skills and has a much higher likelihood of earning the win.

Check out my official prediction below!

Mikey Garcia wins via unanimous decision

Sandor Martin is a very technical fighter. He has a fantastic record at 38-2 with wins over several elite fighters. Unfortunately for the Barcelona-based brawler, his biggest strengths simply are not as good as his opponent’s.

I believe Sandor will look to out-point Mikey Garcia using his technical skills. He is not as technically sound as Mikey Garcia, though. Martin has the skills to win some rounds, yet as the fight drags on, Mikey Garcia’s strong technical abilities will allow him to earn the decision victory.

It would not shock me to see Mikey Garcia score a knockout in this fight, either. His left hook could be a fantastic weapon to utilize. If not, he should come out with his hand raised via unanimous decision.

Conclusion

All eyes will be on Mikey Garcia this weekend. He is one of the most skilled fighters in the world, yet inactivity has delayed much of his progress in the sport. Garcia finally seems ready to compete at a high level again and needs to earn a win here in order to compete for a major title in 2022.
