Vancouver Whitecaps at Houston Dynamo Pick and Prediction

We’ve got one MLS game on the schedule for tonight, and it’s a clash between a pair of Western Conference playoff hopefuls. The Dynamo have been one of the league’s most impressive success stories after a few lean years. They’ve morphed into one of MLS’s most exciting attacking units and currently sit fourth in the west.

As for Vancouver, the Whitecaps’ back-to-back wins have helped vault them into the final playoff spot in the conference for now. It’s still too early to start playing the points game, but 13 points through nine games is a solid output from a team hungry for some success.

How will this one play out from Houston?

Vancouver Whitecaps (+0.5)
Houston Dynamo (-0.5)
Total: 2.5
  • Moneyline: Vancouver +365, Houston -125, Draw +250
  • Betting Value: Vancouver is sound defensively, but Houston at home is tough to handle. Hit the Over..

The Houston Dynamo are still riding high after their 4-0 demolition of Orlando City last week. This club is capable of scoring goals by the truckload, and the 19 they’ve netted thus far is tied for second in MLS behind Portland’s 20. We know where the production is coming from. Erick Torres, Romell Quioto, Alberth Elis and Mauro Manotas have combined to contribute 18 of the 19 tallies for Houston on the season. Midfielder Alex has been spreading the wealth and pulling the strings, as evidenced by his MLS-high six assists thus far.

The Whitecaps look to continue flashing their impressive form away from home. This will be Vancouver’s fourth consecutive road game, yet they’re attempting to win their third straight after beating Montreal and Colorado in consecutive weeks. As most teams will do on the road, the ‘Caps shift into a more safe, defensive style. So far, so good. Vancouver has allowed just four goals over the last four games.

That defensive mettle will surely be tested tonight against Houston’s high-flying attack. While the Whitecaps’ form away from BC Place is hugely impressive, we’re afraid their winning streak will conclude at two. Houston is 5-0-1 this season at BBVA Compass Stadium, and we think they’ll be 6-0-1 when they wake up tomorrow morning.
