The group stage of the fourteenth season of ESL Pro League is reaching the fever pitch! There are just two more rounds to go until we’ve found out all twelve playoff participants. NiP vs. FURIA pick and preview focuses on the most interesting fourth-round clash. If FURIA loses, they’re practically out of the equation, and NiP won’t have to sweat too much against Gambit. But, if FURIA wins, then group D is going to be wide open coming into the fifth and final round.
Check out the the fourth day of group D's schedule below! 👇
These two have met just once this year. It was in February at the IEM XV World Championship. FURIA took the win thanks to inspiring performances by arT and junior. But, both NiP and FURIA have made roster alterations since then. NiP acquired device, and LNZ is currently standing in for nawwk. FURIA, on the other hand, replaced junior with drop.
How will these changes reflect on the outcome of tomorrow’s clash? How will they affect our NiP vs. FURIA picks? No worries, you’ll find everything out in due time!
FURIA have been solid on Mirage and Nuke, though NiP are currently on a four-matches winning streak there. Dust 2 is the likeliest FURIA’s ban tomorrow, whereas NiP might even go for Mirage instead of Vertigo. We all know FURIA aren’t exactly good on there.
Who has the upper hand in terms of the map pool? Well, I’m afraid our NiP vs. FURIA picks don’t benefit from map pool statistics. There’s nothing separating them, so we better move onto the recent results!
Overall, I’d say these two are neck-and-neck in terms of the overall form. NiP had a good run on BLAST Premier Spring Finals (fourth place), whereas FURIA won Elisa Invitational Summer (a smaller event). As for more recent results, NiP are coming into this match following wins against Team One and Entropiq, as well as their opening-round loss to Liquid. FURIA lost the opener too, against Entropiq of all teams. They did beat Team One in the second round, though very narrowly, only to get stomped by Gambit in the third round.
This is FURIA’s make it or break it match. If they lose, they’d have to beat Liquid in the final round and hope for other results to perfectly align. In other words, losing will almost certainly result in elimination. Liquid have room for errors, though they better not make one since they’d have an imperative of defeating Gambit in the final round.
This here part is all about device and KSCERATO. On one end, the Brazilian magician carried his team to the narrow win against Team One. KRSCERATO’s 66 kills in two maps were the very reason FURIA are still fighting for the playoffs.
NiP’s device was the best player in both of their wins, as well as their opening-round loss to Team Liquid. We expect another brilliant performance by him, one that’s likely to outshine anything KSCERATO brings to the table… but only ever so slightly!
In translation, I’m confident in NiP’s ability to win this one, but I also think it’s going to be much tougher than most people think. The Brazilians will give everything they got tomorrow, and NiP’s win will have the slightest of margins in the end.
But, a win is a win, and NiP should cruise to the playoffs disregarding their clash vs. Gambit in the final round. Who will be the third playoff team from group D? Liquid seems like the likeliest candidate, though a lot of stuff can change in the final two rounds.
