Oregon Ducks vs Washington State Cougars Game Preview

Saturday’s Pac-12 showdown between these two schools will mark the 98th time they have played against each other. Currently, Oregon holds a 49-41-7 record against Washington State. However, the Cougars have won the last 3 straight meetings. Prior to that, the Ducks had won 8 straight games.

Oregon (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12) is coming off a huge OT victory over the Washington Huskies. It marked the third straight Top 25 team they have played, winning two of them. The Ducks were able to score 30 points on the rugged Washington defense and hope to score more than that on the Cougars this weekend. Can Oregon sweep the state of Washington this year?

Washington State (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12) is coming off a Bye Week. So, they’ve had two weeks to prepare for this highly talented Oregon Ducks offense. Prior to that, WSU defeated the Oregon State Beavers 56 to 37. WSU is looking for the sweep of Oregon football teams. Will they be able to win their 4th straight over Oregon?

The spread for this game has seen a lot of movement at most online betting sites. The line originally opened with WSU favored by 1.5 to 2 points at most sportsbooks. From there, the line moved to Oregon being favored by up to 1.5 points before jumping back to favor WSU. Currently, the spread is WSU favored by 3 points. Also at most online sportsbooks, the Over/Under opened at 66.5 total points and has remained unchanged.

Free Pac-12 Sports Bet and Game Prediction: Oregon Ducks +120

This is easily the toughest test to date for the Washington State Cougars and I believe it will be one that they will fail. The Ducks are very talented and should be undefeated on the season if it weren’t for a few mistakes at the end of the Stanford game. The Ducks were up by 10 points with 4:30 minutes left in the game.

Fortunately for Oregon, they learned their lessons from the tough loss to Stanford and went on the road to Berkeley and defeated Cal the next week. After that, the Ducks had a Bye Week before taking on Washington at home. Oregon won that game in OT by a score of 30-27.

The Ducks are battle tested and pose a huge challenge to the Cougars. For WSU, they haven’t beaten anyone of significance. Some might say that Utah is a good team, but I would argue otherwise. In their toughest test so far, WSU lost at USC 39-36. The other teams they’ve defeated are Oregon State, EWU, SJSU, and Wyoming. Their schedule has been a lot easier than Oregon’s so far.

With that said, I don’t think that WSU can defeat the Ducks. Both teams are averaging similar points per game as Oregon scores 43 ppg and allows 24.8 ppg, while WSU scores 41.8 ppg and allows 23.8 ppg. Oregon has played against 3 straight top level defenses in the conference. WSU has only played one good defense in Utah and they were held to their lowest point total of the season (28 pts).

WSU’s Minshew might have great numbers on the year with 2,422 yards, 19 TDs and 4 INTs, but Oregon’s Justin Herbert has similar numbers and is a Heisman Trophy candidate. Herbert should be the difference maker in this game, but if he isn’t, look for Oregon’s running game to seal the victory on Saturday. WSU only averages 71.8 rushing ypg and Oregon averages 209.5 ypg on the ground. That’s a massive difference and an advantage for the Ducks. WSU is one dimensional in their air-raid attack and I see that hurting them this weekend against a team that can keep up any scoring pace with the Cougars.

WSU hasn’t played a team with as much talent that Oregon has. So, until I see the Cougars actually beat an upper Pac-12 team, I can’t go with them no matter what their ATS and SU numbers are.

The safe bet would be taking the points for the Ducks. However, I actually believe they will win this game outright. So, I’m going with the Oregon Ducks moneyline of +120 instead.

Oregon is 5-1 SU this year, 14-9 SU in their last 23 games as a road underdog of 3 points or less, 2-0 SU after a conference game this year, 5-1 SU in their last 6 turf games, 8-3 SU in their last 11 against WSU, and 4-1 SU in their last 5 games at WSU. The Cougars are 1-3 SU and 1-3 ATS after a Bye Week. The Favorite is 1-7 ATS in the last 8 meetings.

Take the Ducks moneyline of +120 in this game. If you rather play it safer then go with the Ducks getting 3 points at -110.
