New England vs New York MNF Game Preview

These two AFC East rivals have played against each other a total of 121 times. The Patriots lead the head to head series with a record of 66-54-1. New England is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings, including winning this year’s first game by a score of 30 to 14.

Tom Brady is 28-6 against the Jets in the regular season and has won seven straight games against New York. Furthermore, he’s 16-7 in Monday Night Football games. However, the Patriots are just 4-3 against the Jets in MNF matchups. And, New England is 9-7 on the road when playing on Monday night.

The Patriots (6-0) have shown the rest of the league that they’re still the cream of the crop. Their defense has been the driving force behind an undefeated season so far. Offensively, the Patriots are banged up at receiver, tight end and along the offensive line. Will they be able to produce on Monday with a patchwork lineup?

The Jets (1-4) were left for dead after QB Sam Darnold missed three games due to mono. He returned last week against the Cowboys and sparked the Jets to an upset win. Darnold led the way, and this football team seems to have new life. Will they be able to pull off a second upset in a row?

Depending on which NFL betting site you look at, the spread for this game opened at 9.5 to 10.5 points in favor of the New England Patriots. Currently, most football betting sites have the Patriots favored by 10 points. The Over/Under opened at 43 points and has gone up slightly to 43.5 total points with most online betting sites.

The Patriots are a heavy favorite with no value on the moneyline as they’re listed between -410 to -472. The Jets can be found as a sizable underdog with a moneyline of +340 to +375, depending on the sports betting site.

Free MNF NFL Bet and Game Prediction: Patriots -10 (-103)

The last time these two teams played on Monday Night Football, the Patriots blew out the Jets 45-3 in 2010. However, that game was in Foxboro. The 2005 season was the last time the Patriots played at the Jets on MNF. Yet, they also won that game, but the score was closer as New England won 31-21.

I see this week’s game being closer to the 2005 MNF matchup than the 2010 blowout. For starters, Sam Darnold makes a huge difference with this offense. In his first game back, Darnold went 23 of 32 for 338 yards, two TDs, and one INT. More importantly, he instilled confidence and stability into this offense.

That was the most offensive points that the Jets have scored all season, and it came against a respectable opponent in the Dallas Cowboys. However, the Patriots defense is significantly better than the Cowboys as they only allow 260.8 total ypg, 187.2 passing ypg, 73.7 rushing ypg, and just 8 ppg.

Even if Darnold has a solid game on Monday, his teammates on the defensive side of the ball won’t be able to stop the Patriots offense. This will be the difference in the ball game. The Jets give up 24.6 ppg, 369 total ypg, 273.2 passing ypg, and 95.8 rushing ypg.

Last week against Dallas, the Jets gave up almost 400 total yards and 22 points. The Cowboys settled for three field goals when down in the Jets’ territory. That won’t happen with New England as they will punch it in the endzone.

The Patriots offense averages 31.7 ppg, 399.7 total ypg, 298.2 passing ypg, and 101.5 rushing ypg. I see Brady and this offense putting up at least 27 points and easily crossing the 350 total yard mark. I wouldn’t be surprised if they totaled over 400 yards. This Jets defense is average at best.

New England is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 overall games, but 10-0 SU. They’re 8-3 ATS in their previous October 11th games, 11-2 ATS versus teams with losing records, and 9-2 ATS during Week 5 through Week 9.

The Jets 5-8 ATS in their last 13 divisional games, 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 AFC games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall games, 13-15 ATS in their last 28 games, and 14-15 ATS on MNF since 1993.

This game will be competitive at times, but in the end, I expect the New England Patriots to pull away. Their defense will shut down the Jets’ hopes, and their offense will keep putting up points. New England has won five games this season by at least 16 points per contest.

I’m taking New England to cover this 10 point spread against the Jets and win 27 to 16. If you can find the spread below 10 points then jump on it just in case this game ends up 31-21 like in 2005.
