Sharks vs Knights – NHL Pick for May 4th
With the series all tied up at 2 games apiece, this pivotal Game 5 will be an exciting contest. Las Vegas will be rocking as the Knights return home with the hopes of turning around their fortunes from Game 4, where they were shut out 4-0.
The Knights came into this series after sweeping the LA Kings and looking like the best team in the conference. However, they weren’t taking the Sharks lightly even after opening up with a 7-0 Game 1 victory. The Sharks were able to come back and win Game 2 in double overtime to even the series, before falling in Game 3’s overtime thriller. Once again, the Sharks bounced back in Game 4 to even the series by winning 4-0.
Each team has shut out their opponent and each team has won on the road in this series. However, I really like the Knights to bounce back by winning Game 5. If the trend holds up, Las Vegas should win as each team has been alternating victories.
In the first 3 games, Vegas’ top line of Smith, Karlsson and Marchessault totaled 19 points. They were shut out in Game 4. I don’t see that happening in Game 5 as I like the trio to tally at least 6 points in this one. Also, I believe Vegas goalie Marc-Andre Fleury is due for a bounce back game. Fleury has given up 11 goals over the last 3 games, but his numbers are still impressive for the postseason as he sports a .951 save percentage and a 1.53 gaa.
Despite being shut out in Game 4, Las Vegas did have 34 shots on goal and 5 power play attempts. Although San Jose blanked Vegas in both areas, I don’t see it happening again. Sharks goalie Martin Jones went 14-18 on the road this year with a .912 save percentage. He’s gone 3-1 on the road in the playoffs, but has given up 10 goals in the process and was yanked from Game 1. Jones finished the regular season with 4 shutouts and already has 2 in the playoffs. I don’t see him getting a 3rd tonight. In fact, I see Fleury outdueling Jones in this game.
For the season, Vegas is 32-11-2 at home, 5-1 SU in their last 6 home games, 13-1 SU in their last 14 home games against teams with a winning record on the road, 14-5 SU after avenging a loss against the same team, and 11-3 after scoring only 1 goal or being shut out in their previous game. The Sharks are 23-22 on the road this season and 1-4 SU in their last 5 games at Las Vegas.
Vegas was the 5th highest scoring team in the regular season and 10th in power plays. They will bounce back from their Game 4 shutout to win Game 5 and go up in the series 3-2. With how erratic the scoring has been in this series, I’m staying away from the spread. Additionally, the total hasn’t been consistent either. Take the Knights moneyline as they will win this pivotal home game.
