Toronto FC at Columbus Crew Pick and Prediction
Wednesday brings another lone MLS tilt with Toronto FC continuing their road swing in Columbus against the Crew. After picking up a win in Seattle last weekend against the defending MLS Cup champs, TFC will wrap-up the little two-game road swing at Mapfre Stadium before heading home to take on Minnesota next weekend.
Columbus, meanwhile, are coming off a solid 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution. Following tonight’s game, the Crew will head out on the road to play three straight against Montreal, New England and TFC.
How will this one shake out?
- Moneyline: TFC +225, Columbus +115, Draw +250
- Betting Value: The draw looks solid here. Otherwise, not much value.
Toronto FC may be the hottest team in MLS right now, having won four consecutive games since an inauspicious start to 2017. However, they’ve got a tall task ahead of them tonight. They’ll be playing their third match in the span of eight days on the road against a stout Columbus Crew side. Toronto will play eight games in the month of May alone.
Columbus has essentially enjoyed the opposite kind of season. They came out of the gates fairly hot, but things have cooled considerably of late. They’re 1-2-0 since the solid beginning, but the Crew did topple the Revolution over the weekend, 2-0. Columbus are in a busy stretch of their own, with seven games over the span of a month.
The Crew have been scoring goals in bunches on the year. They’ve already bagged 15 as a team, 10 of which have come from Ola Kamara and Justin Meram. Federico Higuain has been a maestro orchestrating things out of the midfield, but Columbus will have their work cut out for them trying to break down a TFC defense surrendering less than a goal per game. Columbus, meanwhile, have already conceded 13 goals in 10 games.
Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco are still one of the league’s preeminent goalscoring tandems up top for TFC. The two have combined for 11 tallies already in 2017, including Altidore’s penalty strike last weekend to give the Reds an impressive 1-0 victory in Seattle.
We like TFC’s resolve away from home. They’ve lost just one of their last 10 regular season matches away from BMO Field. Chalk this one up as a draw tonight at Mapfre Stadium.
