Warriors VS Spurs Game 3 – NBA Pick for 4/19/18
Down 2-0 in the series, the San Antonio Spurs return home with the hopes of getting a much needed win. The Spurs have lost by 21 and 15 points in the first two games. They appear to be greatly outmatched by the athletic, high scoring Warriors. For Golden State, they look to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.
Here’s a fun fact for you, NBA teams that go 2-0 in a best-of-7 series are 273-19 all-time. That means the Spurs are facing a daunting task to come back in this series, as if they weren’t already fighting an uphill battle against the Warriors. And, I just don’t see it happening.
But, tonight’s game 3 will be a tricky one to bet on. The Spurs will be playing with a lot of emotion tonight, and that can go one of two ways: for them or against them. Wife of Spurs’ head Coach Greg Popovich died yesterday and the team will be playing with heavy hearts. So, they are not only playing out of desperation to get back into the series, but they’re also playing with a desire to win for their coach.
To accomplish this tough task, the Spurs will need to contain Golden State’s duo of Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson. The two all-stars combined for 63 points in Game 2 and seemed to score at-will. Thompson has been lights out on the floor in this series scoring 29 ppg on 23-for-33 shooting. Durant has also been a beast as he’s poured in 28 ppg, 7.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists over the first two games.
San Antonio can take away a few positives from Game 2’s loss, they played a great first half and actually led at half-time 53-47. The Warriors pulled away in the 3rd quarter and never looked back.
Spurs’ all-star big man LaMarcus Aldridge scored 34 points and added 12 rebounds on Monday night despite facing double teams all game long. San Antonio will need him to have another big night if they’re to have any realistic shot of winning.
Another area the Spurs will need to improve on is 3 point shooting. They only shot 14.3% in Game 2, while the Warriors shot 48.4%. The Spurs were also outrebounded and gave up a 52.6% shooting to the Warriors compared to their 41.2%. Bottom line, the Spurs need to make more shots and limit Golden State’s shot percentage.
San Antonio went 33-8 at home this season and averaged 105.5 ppg. The Warriors went 29-12 on the road this season and averaged 113.8 ppg. The Over has gone 3-0-1 in Golden State’s last 4 Conference Quarterfinals games. The Over has also gone 5-0-1 in the Spurs last 6 Conference Quarterfinals games.
In this series: Golden State has averaged 114.5 ppg, the Spurs have averaged 96.5 ppg, and the Over is 1-0-1. With that said, I like these teams to come out scoring and push the total over 206 points tonight. I believe emotions will be high and that should lead to more up-and-down the floor action.
