NBA Western Conference Finals Pick: Warriors vs Trail Blazers Game 2

After picking up a big win in Game 1, the Golden State Warriors will look to make it a 2-0 series lead on the Portland Trail Blazers Thursday night. The Warriors looked to be, by far, the better team in Game 1 and ran away late thanks to a 39-point fourth quarter. That quarter allowed the Warriors to cover an eight-point spread with a 116-94 win.

Stephen Curry drilled nine three-pointers over the course of the game, finishing with 36 points on the night. Klay Thompson also had a big night, finishing with 26 points for Golden State. Portland, meanwhile, did not have a single player reach 20 points in the contest, as Damian Lillard’s 19 points were a team-high. Rodney Hood had another big performance off the bench, finishing with 17 points in his 26 minutes on the floor.

Looking ahead to Game 2, Kevin Durant is expected to miss his third consecutive game with an injury. Reporter Ramona Shelburne stated this week that Durant isn’t expected to even be re-evaluated until Thursday (which is also, of course, game day).

The Warriors covered the spread and then some in Game 1, and the spread sticks at 8 points for Game 2 (-110 odds on either side of the spread). The moneyline, as it was in Game 1, is incredibly lopsided. Golden State is -360 to win, while Portland posts at +290.

Just like with Game 1, I don’t see enough meat on the bones to warrant wagering on Golden State just to win. Unless you’re thinking Portland evens the series with a huge bounce-back performance, I’d advise steering clear of the moneyline on this one. After winning by 22 points in Game 1, I also see no reason to switch sides for Game 2. My pick is, once again, the Warriors -8 (-110).
