Who is Most Likely to Win the Eurovision Song Contest?
Artists representing 37 countries will compete in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest. The so-called Big 5 – France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK – qualify automatically for the Grand Final, along with host nation, Sweden. The other 31 countries will battle it out in the semi-finals, and 20 of them will advance to the Grand Final.
These are the leading contenders in the Eurovision Song Contest betting odds:
Switzerland
Nemo found fame in 2016 after performing at a music festival called SRF Virus. The footage went viral, propelling Nemo to stardom in Switzerland. They have released multiple EPs since then, dealing with themes such as gender identity and mental health.
“Finding myself has been a long and often difficult process for me. But nothing feels better than the freedom I have gained by realizing that I am non-binary.”
Croatia
Croatia is the second-favorite with most sportsbooks in the Eurovision odds. The country has never previously won the Eurovision Song Contest, but there are high hopes for this year’s entry. Croatia will be represented by Baby Lasagna, with the song “Rim Tim Tagi Dim.”
Singer Marko Purišić, who created Baby Lasagna said the song is taken from the “name of the folklore dance that comes from the village where the song’s hero is from.”
The track tells the story of a young person’s journey from Croatia in search of a brighter future overseas.
Italy
Italy won a third Eurovision Song Contest title in 2021, when rock band Måneskin claimed the crown after performing “Zitti e buoni.” This year’s entrant is pop star Angelina Mango, who rose to fame last year, when two of her songs rose to No. 1 in the Italian singles chart.
Mango has since racked up more than 2 million TikTok followers and performed a sellout tour, so she will carry momentum into the Eurovision Song Contest. Italy is third in the futures odds on Eurovision 2024, best priced at +600 with BetOnline.
Netherlands
The Netherlands will also be a strong contender at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest. Dutch artists have won this contest five times in the past, making the Netherlands one of the best performing countries in Eurovision history.
He had a No. 1 hit in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland with “Friesenjurg,” which has amassed more than 100 million streams worldwide. Klein will perform “Europapa” at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Ukraine
Ukraine was a popular winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022. The war-torn country finished sixth last year, and it will be keen to maintain the momentum this time around. Ukraine has chosen Alyona Alyone and Jerry Heil to represent the nation with their track “Teresa & Marias”.
The song focuses on the strength of Ukraine’s women amid the ongoing war with Russia. The duo said: “On behalf of women, we are talking about the importance of unity for significant actions and victories. And even though we, as Ukrainians, wrote this song about Ukraine, everyone can recognise themselves in the lyrics.”
Other Contenders
Ireland and Sweden are the most successful countries in Eurovision Song Contest history, with seven wins apiece. Sweden is the reigning champion, but its representatives this year, twins Marcus and Martinus, are +6000 underdogs with Bovada. Ireland also has a non-binary representative, Bambie Thug, as it aims to win the title for the first time since 1996.
Other contenders include Belgium, represented by Mustii, and France’s Slimane, who will sing “Mon Amour.” Germany’s Isaak is a +20000 outsider with Bovada, while Spanish synth-pop duo Nebulossa also have long odds, and UK singer Olly Alexander is a +6000 underdog with Bovada.
Best Way to Bet on Eurovision
Here are our top tips for betting on the Eurovision 2024 odds:
- The best song is by no means guaranteed to win at Eurovision 2024. Many countries blindly vote for their allies and neighbors, so factor in regional collusion when making your picks.
- Politics plays a role in voting too. At a time when Europe is divided, it is easy to see why neutral Switzerland is the favorite.
- Songs performed in English tend to do well in the Eurovision voting, so keep that in mind when making your picks.
- Consider recency bias. Songs performed at the start of the night often struggle, as voters forget about them.
- Shop around for the best odds before betting on the Eurovision. For example, BetUS has +4000 on Spain and Bovada has +20000 on Spain, so you will earn 5x more by placing your wager at Bovada.
- Watch the semi-finals and see which songs gain traction afterwards on YouTube, Spotify, and Google Trends. Back the countries that carry momentum into the Grand Final, and also seek opportunities to hedge your bets on the night.
- Look for interesting props. For example, BetOnline is offering +150 on the first letter of the winning country to be A-H, +140 on I-Q, and +130 on R-Z. The R-X option looks interesting, as it covers Switzerland, Sweden and Ukraine.
