When Is Miss America 2024?

The annual Miss America Pageant is one of the most exciting beauty pageants of the year. The annual event takes place in January and is a great opportunity for entertainment bettors.

This year’s event is scheduled to start on January 6th. Contestants will have to compete in a series of preliminary rounds to show off their talents and make their case for the Miss America crown. The final round for the 2024 Miss America Pageant is scheduled for January 14th.

Miss America 2024 Contestants

All of the contestants for the Miss America 2024 competition have already been chosen. Each state and the District of Columbia crowned their champions earlier this year. The 51 champions will now compete for the 2024 Miss America crown.

All of the contestants above won the pageant for their respective state to qualify. The oldest competitors in this year’s pageant are Gina Carloto and Sunny Day, both of whom are 28. Lianna Hartshorn of New Mexico is the youngest competitor at just 19 years old.

What are the Stages of the Miss America Pageant?

There were many changes to the Miss America competition prior to this year’s pageant. First and foremost, the age requirements were changed. Contestants must be between the ages of 18 and 28 to qualify.

Here are the stages and scoring percentages for the rounds in the 2024 event:

  • Private interview – 30% of final score
  • On-stage questions – 10% of final score
  • Talent of HER Story – 20% of final score
  • Health and fitness – 20% of final score
  • Evening gown – 20% of final score

All of the contestants also have to have a community service initiative (CSI) that they are working with. In the competition itself, all 51 of the women competing had to choose either a talent to perform or a speech to perform. The speech option, known as HER  Story, is available for the first time, and a talent is no longer required to be performed.

Another change to this year’s competition is the addition of a physical fitness round. The 2024 pageant will be the first event with a fitness category since 2018.

Miss America 2024 Betting Odds

This Miss America Pageant 2024 is shaping up to be an exciting competition. There are new events for the 51 contestants to compete in. The latest changes should help make the event even more entertaining and, with the addition of the HER Story option, also educational.

Online betting sites like Bovada have odds available for all 51 of the contestants who qualified for this year’s pageant. Here are the odds for the top eight candidates in this year’s competition:

  • Miss North Dakota – Sydney Helgeson (+800)
  • Miss Arizona – Tiffany Ticlo (+1000)
  • Miss Wyoming – Mackenzie Kern (+1000)
  • Miss Kentucky – Mallory Hudson (+1200)
  • Miss Maryland – Kennedy Taylor (+1200)
  • Miss New Hampshire – Brooke Mills (+1200)
  • Miss New York – Amelia Collins (+1200)
  • Miss North Carolina – Taylor Loyd (+1200)

All of the other contestants are available at +2000 odds or longer. There are three contestants listed at +6000 odds, the longest of any participants in this year’s event.

Miss North Dakota – Sydney Helgeson (+800)

Sydney Helgeson is the favorite to win the 2024 Miss America Pageant. She is listed at +800 in the latest betting odds at Bovada. As of now, Helgeson is the only contestant with shorter than 10-1 odds.

Helgeson is from Bismark, North Dakota, and won the Miss North Dakota Pageant earlier this year. She also competed in the Miss North Dakota Teen Pageant. The competition was known as Miss North Dakota’s Outstanding Teen when she won it in 2017.

Her previous experience in this style of competition should help Helgeson come January. She is a singer and will be performing a song during the talent portion of the competition. Helgeson is currently 22 years old.

Miss Arizona – Tiffany Ticlo (+1000)

The reigning Miss Arizona is one of two contestants listed at +1000 odds to win the Miss America 2024 competition. Tiffany Ticlo is the sister of Isabel Ticlo, who won Miss Arizona and Miss Arizona USA in 2018 and 2022, respectively.

Like Helgeson, Ticlo is a singer and will be performing a song as her talent. She is 21 years old and currently a junior at Arizona State University.

Ticlo has a unique advantage over other contestants. She can rely on her sister for advice on these beauty pageant competitions. In the end, though, it will come down to whether Tiffany has what it takes to win Miss America 2024.

Miss Wyoming – Mackenzie Kern (+1000)

Rounding out the top three is Mackenzie Kern, who was crowned Miss Wyoming earlier this year. Kern is a former Miss Wyoming USA (2021) and Miss Wyoming Teen USA (2018) winner. She is also the only contestant in the top three not performing a talent.

Instead, Kern will take advantage of the new HER Story option. This could give her an edge over the other top competitors if her performance helps her stand out.

Kern also has plenty of experience winning these competitions. Her previous success could help her come January.

Miss America 2024 Prop Wagers

In addition to letting you bet on the winner and other mainstream sports like basketball and boxing, Bovada also has great markets available for Miss America 2024 prop wagers. Here are two of the props you can wager on for this year’s competition.

Age of Winner

  • 23 or under (-180)
  • 24 or over (+140)

One of the best prop wages for this competition is this bet on the age of the winner. Your options are split between the contests under 23 and over 24. The under 23 option is listed at -180, making it a slight favorite in this wager.

I would stick with the favorite in this wager. Many of the top contenders in the latest betting odds, including the top three, are all 23 years old or younger. 27 of the 51 contestants, just over half of the field, fall into this category as well.

The winner is 23 years old or younger (-180)

Talent of Winner

  • Singing a song (-190)
  • Making a speech (+250)
  • Dancing (+450)

Another exciting futures wager available for the upcoming Miss America 2024 competition is this wager for the talent of the winner. Contestants have to either perform a talent or make a speech in the HER Story category. Singers (-190) are the favorites in this wager.

Making a speech (+250) and dancing (+450) are the other options for this bet. Two of the top three betting favorites are singers, though, and that is what I would choose in this wager.

Miss America 2024 Pick

Bettors have 51 different contestants to choose from in the latest Miss America 2024 betting odds. Miss North Dakota Sydney Helgeson (+800) is the current favorite less than a month before the competition. I would stick with Helgeson in this wager and bet on the Bismark native.
