2024 Presidential Election Betting

You can bet on the election online at any time, but the earlier you bet, the better. Wagering on political futures odds this far out can be tricky. However, it also has the benefit of offering better payout odds than if you wait until November to bet.

Updated 2024 Election Odds

Last updated: March 7, 2024.

Super Tuesday has come and gone, and, as expected, we’re looking at a rematch of the 2020 election. Trump has all but clinched the GOP’s nomination after a dominant showing on Super Tuesday. His last remaining opponent, Nikki Haley, officially bowed out of the race shortly thereafter.

Trump still faces a slew of legal hurdles over the next few months, though it’s looking increasingly likely that he won’t stand trial for any case between now and November. As a result, Trump’s 2024 election odds have actually improved, per the latest BetUS election odds.

Candidate Odds Party
Donald Trump Sr. -200 Republican
Joe Biden +150 Democrat
Other +350 N/A

President Biden’s odds have improved, as well. Biden was sitting at +160 futures betting odds to win the election at our last update, but he’s now at -150. Biden predictably cruised his way through the Democratic primaries on Super Tuesday without facing much legitimate opposition. Dean Phillips, the only other true Democrat in the race, suspended his campaign on Wednesday.

At this point, anyone else going on to win the 2024 election would be a surprise. Trump and Biden are the only viable bets as of now, but both face question marks. While Trump still may run into legal issues, Biden’s concern stems from his age. At 81, he is already the oldest president in American history.

Still, the +350 odds on “other” are admittedly alluring. If Trump is ultimately convicted of a crime before the election, could the Republican Party replace him on the ticket? Biden is a shoo-in for the Democratic nomination if he stays in the race, but some have called for the POTUS to step aside and give way to a younger alternative.

Biden Election Odds

It is rare that an incumbent President is beaten in an election. However, Joe Biden pulled off the upset in 2020, beating Trump by winning 306 of the 538 Electoral votes. Now, it is Biden who is the incumbent trying to avoid the upset.

Currently, Biden is listed at +160 to win the election, second only to Trump (-130). Biden was the favorite for much of last year but lost the lead in the fall of 2023.

Despite the current betting odds and his low approval rating, Biden could still be a good bet to win again in 2024. The 81-year-old has not truly started to campaign yet, so it is not surprising that Trump appears to have more support. There are some people who question if Biden is healthy enough to run or if he should step down and let another candidate run.

Will Biden Step Down?

Joe Biden already holds the record for the oldest sitting president. He turns 82 in November, and if he is reelected, Biden would be 86 years old by the time his second term comes to an end. His age and the potential mental decline that could come with it are two major talking points for his opponents.

Trump is in his late 70s, so he is not much younger than Biden. However, Biden’s age is not the only reason people have discussed him potentially stepping down. His approval rating for his third year in office was just 39.8%, lower than Trump’s 42% during his third year in office.

Biden’s rating is the second-lowest for a President’s third year since World War II. Only Jimmy Carter’s 37.4% was lower than Biden’s. Biden does have time to turn around his approval rating, though, but he has a long way to go to get back to the 48.9% rating he had in his first year.

Is Biden a Good Bet to Win Re-Election?

A low approval rating and concerns about his age are just some of the obstacles Biden faces if he wants to win re-election. However, for now, at least, there are no clear alternatives for the Democrats to turn to.

As long as Biden is on the ticket, he will have the advantages that come with being the incumbent. Also, Trump has done plenty in the last few years to sabotage his own support. Biden beat Trump before, and, despite the current odds, I think Biden is a good bet to win in 2024.

Biden’s campaign is not in full force yet, so he has not yet started to focus on building support for the upcoming election. Once he does start campaigning, I think Biden’s political betting odds will shorten significantly. Betting on Biden now is a good way to lock in plus-money payout odds for the sitting President.

Trump Election Odds

The favorite to win this year’s election is former President Donald Trump. Despite not competing in any of the primary debates, Trump is the leading candidate to win the GOP nomination. Trump is listed at -130 in the latest election betting odds.

The biggest advantage Trump has is the seemingly unwavering support of MAGA voters. Assuming he can mobilize his supporters again this November, Trump will be a tough out. However, he still has yet to announce his Vice President, and the former President faces a mountain of legal issues.

Who Will Be Trump’s VP?

The relationship between Trump and his former VP, Mike Pence, quickly fell apart after the duo lost re-election in 2020. Pence was even one of Trump’s early challengers for the 2024 GOP nomination, but he withdrew from the race last October.

It is safe to say that Pence will not be joining Trump on the ticket in 2024. Trump will need to pick a strong VP candidate, though, if he wants to get support from moderate Republican voters. The right choice could help solidify Trump’s campaign and make him an even bigger favorite to win in 2024.

There is no clear favorite to be Trump’s VP pick in the latest political odds. Elise Stefanik (+350), a Republican congresswoman from New York, currently has the shortest odds at BetUS. Other leading contenders include Kristi Noem (+400), Ben Carson (+400), and Vivek Ramaswamy (+500).

Will Trump Go to Jail?

Another major concern for Trump heading into this year’s election is his ongoing legal battles. The former President faces dozens of charges in four different states. His charges range from fraud to defamation and sexual assault.

Trump’s legal battles will likely continue far beyond the 2024 election. However, the results of any cases before Election Day could undermine Trump’s support within the GOP. Recently, the former President was ordered to pay over $83 million to E. Jean Carroll as a result of a defamation lawsuit.

If Trump continues to end up on the losing end of his legal battles, then it could put his 2024 campaign in jeopardy. He is also the favorite at -130, so you do not get the advantage of betting on plus-money odds. I would wait to bet on Trump until the impact of his legal battles becomes clearer.
